LATEST NEWS -  12 June, 2015 -- Greenpeace had further talks with APRIL and they decided now to stop the deforestation completely. It is fantastic good news because hundred thousands of acres of ancient rainforest will be saved.


UPDATE:  27 February, 2015 --  Good News UK Santander promised to pull out backing APRIL.  Whether that means all the backing and if their promise is true and immediately, remains to be seen. At least Greenpeace received that promise. It also remains to be seen whether the other backers are pulling out. Banks and Financials world seem to have lost principles these days. 

UPDATE: 20 February, 2015 -- As much as Greenpeace keeps pressuring Santander they still buying time  by saying they awaiting APRIL's report. This is not good enough because every day another piece of rainforest is lost forever. It has to be stopped immediately to avoid another part of the rainforest  gone forever. Greenpeace is trying to get an appointment with the top chief executive but, unfortunately, it is still another day lost and with that a piece of rainforest.  Santander could have stopped it weeks and months ago when Greenpeace started contacting them.

Right now, digger are cutting down Indonesia’s rainforest and pushing Oran Utan, tigers, sun bears and many other species towards extinction.

The banking group Santander is backing APRIL a pulp and paper company with millions of pounds to destroy Indonesia’s rainforest.

Tell Santander to stop final extinction or you will withdraw your account but tell them why.

Over the last few years Santander have loaned millions to APRIL which chopping down Indonesia’s rainforest at an alarming rate. If Santander wants to be responsible company, it needs to end the loans now and this would hot APRIL where it hurts most – in the pockets.

Greenpeace forced already Santander to admit that they support APRIL financially but the High Street branches say it’s monitoring the situation and will act accordingly. It is nothing but a white wash and playing for time. So far Santander used to deny them financial support to APRIL. While all this was and is going on the rainforest has been cut down and that was exactly what they were playing at. Only after 75,000 of Greenpeace took action Santander admitted their financial support but still refuses to stop.

According to Greenpeace APRIL had been destroying rainforest for years. It is not known how long Santander advanced loans to them.

Santander said it is waiting for APRIL’s results of a sustainable forest management which is an again a white wash and playing for time. It still does not give the result of stopping cutting down the rainforest which Greenpeace and all of us want. The rainforest is such a complicated environment which only nature could make links between many species and plants and once it is destroyed it can never be established again. It will affect not only Orang Utans, tigers, sun bears and many other smaller species and many plants and birds which are all relying on each other.  Once the chain is broken it would result into                                                                                                  extinction of many.

KPMG assessed APRIL last year.  A leaked report
says that not one of APRIL’S suppliers has met its policy and that includes Santander.

APRIL gave another promise to rectify it but APRIL is known to make and break promises and al the time another piece of rainforest has gone and that is their real policy.

Now we come to the final point; unless the backers all pull out immediately and it has to be immediately APRIL will not stop to destroy Indonesia’s rainforest and drive Orang Utans, tigers, sun bears, rare pygmy elephant and many other species driven to extinctions.

Indonesia's rainforests are home to untold number of plants and animals. Over the years, scientists uncover more rare species that can not be found anywhere else. Yet, the forests are disappearing fast, as greedy companies chop down the trees to make paper and packaging.

HSBC BANK UK SUPPORTS DESTRUCTION OF RAINFORESTS

In my opinion:  Hopefully, with a lot of publicities, these top banks or any other bank stops lending money to these racketeers. After all it is nothing but money grabbing racketeering from these "companies" destroying rainforests for ever.

You could not see a more heart breaking picture than a lonely Orang-utan clings to the last tree of his ruined rainforest home in sheer desperation.

HSBC Supported a company called Burnitama Group in Kalimantan, previously Borneo, with £260million in loans and other financial services since 2010. Again money was available and yet they sacked thousands of employees but that is another question to be answered. However, the report of Daily Mirror points out that if you are customers you unwittingly and indirectly finance the distraction of rainforest for palm oil plantations.

There is an agreement by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil which HSBC covers behind and waves the white vest. The problem with Roundtable which is to be admired has neither the finance nor the power to stop devastation and punish companies who do not abide by the rules.

The London-based Environmental Investigation Agency Mr Jago Wadley said: “HSBC is in effect delegating responsibility for its ethics to a broken system.” The agency issued a report called “Banking On Extinction. Mr Wadley added further that it is not good enough when the future of some of the world’s last remaining precious rainforests and species are at stake.

It is another shocking revelation and tells us how the giant just rough rode regardless as long the money rolls in. Do they really want to carry on until the whole earth is ruined and all the wildlife is destroyed?

It is also amazing that it bankrolled this company since 2010 when the Conservative came into power.  Also let us not forget HSBC was near bankruptcy and rescued with taxpayers money which apparently gets used for these despicable project.

Well, the only way to stop them is to withdraw your bank account and therefore be part of this endless destruction.  Do not forget to state the reason why you withdraw it.

The Cry  UNLESS SOMETHING IS DONE THE ORANG-UTAN  COULD BE EXTINCT has gone out for decades and yet mankind still ploughs on regardless. When they destroyed everything, and they are not far off, they have a mountain of money but realise there is nothing else to eat but money.

SIAMANG GIBBON SINGS

The different species of Gibbons are easily to recognize when you compare them with other species of monkey and apes. However, they evolved from the common ancestor two million years ago.

There are nine species of Gibbons of which eight are more or less the same size. They only differ in colour. Although some species are different but they do not share the same space.  The one species, the Siamang, is larger. It lives in the areas as two other species of the gibbons – the Lar and the Agile gibbons.

The gibbons have all the same characteristics of all apes; long arms; long, slender legs and feet; no tails and their bodies are covered in dense, long hairs. The skin of their faces is dark and has no hairs. They move more upright than monkeys and have less distinct muzzle. 

Gibbons swing from branches to branches by their long, strong arms in an alarming speed. They almost fly through trees and are capable of getting hold of supports which could as much as 15m apart. Their quick movements seem as if they barely tough them. One advantage is that their fingers are very long and their use them as a hook. They can be so quick that they able to run along a slim branch on their hang legs only.

The most remarkable feature of gibbons is their “song”. It echoes round their forest mostly at dawn and can be heard 2-3 km away.

WAY OF LIFE

Gibbons are active in the morning and afternoon. They rest during the hottest time of the day and sleep at night. They built a nest onto branches with twigs and leaves. They live in family groups with one male, female and up to four offsprings. Scientists discovered they mate for life.  Only the Kloss gibbon’s male lives a slightly separate life. He either falls behind the female and her offspring or travels at the side of them. One of the most distinguished and important contact between each others is grooming.

Each family has its own territory. It will live in it and defend it if necessary. There are usually two to four families in a group have a territory of about 1 sqkm of forest. In their territories the smaller gibbons cover 1 to 1.5km a day. The larger species Siamang only travel half as much.

Most of their time is spent feeding and travelling through the branches looking for food. Like the Orang-utan they do prefer ripe fruit and testing it with pressing with their thumb and index finger like human. In each territory there are a variety of trees producing fruit at different times of the year.  They also eat leaves and small amount of insects and spiders which provides them with protein. They pick the fruit with one hand but hang on branches with the other. Since each group has its territory and do not overlap there is no danger of food shortage or compete with each other. Only the Siamang shares territories with smaller gibbons because it eats mostly leaves and therefore it has not to travel all the time.

FAMILY LIFE

Gibbons only mate every two to three years and the female gives birth to one baby. It has a gestation period of seven to eight months. The youngster clings to the mother’s chest for some time while she swings from tree to tree looking for food.  In the first year she watches it all the time and suckling it. The baby is weaned at the beginning of the second year. In the third year the baby will move about by itself but still within the group.

The young gibbons is fully grown at six years but still stays another two year before it moves out of the group and look for a mate and start its own family.

GIBBONS’ SONG

All gibbons sing and it is a very important part of their social life. They could sing either every day or every five days but it is usually performed at dawn. The length of the song also varies from ten minutes or up to two hours. It usually starts with racing around in the branches, pulling off  leaves and making a familiar racket.

The songs have several purposes. They are used to tell the neighbours it is their territory and also a bonding between male and female. The female does likewise and warns other females and groups of their territory.

DANGER OF EXTINCTION

All Asian apes are in great danger of extinction. Previously the threat came from hunters. They mostly shot the adults to catch the babies and selling them as pets or to zoos. In a great number of cases the babies died before they reach their destiny. When this outlook was changed and the hunters became more or less conservationists the danger is now deforestation.

Cutting down continuously the rainforest affect mostly the Orang Utan but only at the moment.  Eventually it will also have an impact on smaller species like the gibbons. It had been noticed that since these animals are driven into smaller areas the adults are becoming more aggressive to each others and the reproduction dropped.

How much more is mankind willing to destroy its world? When will mankind get to its senses and say enough is enough.
